ukbankconv vs PrivacyBooks: private statement tools compared

By Arron Child. Claims checked 24 July 2026; stale pricing or capability claims enter a 90-day review queue.

Evidence level: published-record comparison. We checked the vendor's public page on 24 July 2026. We have not run its output through our parity test, so this page makes no claim about its extraction accuracy.

Short answer

PrivacyBooks publishes a broader browser-local bookkeeping tool: more UK banks, scan/OCR handling, tax categorisation and summaries, and more output formats. ukbankconv is a narrower digital-PDF converter with explicit per-layout certification and deterministic statement reconciliation.

Choose based on whether you need scan/tax workflow breadth or a deliberately limited, review-and-reconcile conversion path.

Where the competitor is stronger

PrivacyBooks' public page names more UK institutions and explicitly addresses scanned statements. It publishes OCR, transaction and tax categorisation, HMRC-oriented summaries, and CSV, Excel, JSON, and OFX exports. That is a much broader bookkeeping and tax-preparation surface than ukbankconv.

Its free plan and low public subscription prices may also be a better fit for regular users who want those ongoing features rather than per-document exports.

Where ukbankconv is stronger

ukbankconv publishes per-bank certification measurements and a strict definition of verified output. It shows extracted rows beside source pages, checks every available running balance and the period equation, and refuses scans because OCR output cannot meet the same digital-text evidence standard without manual review.

Pricing is non-recurring: free previews and credits that never expire. That can fit seasonal work better than a subscription, but is not automatically cheaper for every volume.

What neither published record proves

Browser-local processing is a privacy architecture, not an accuracy result. OCR availability, tax categories, output counts, certification language, and reconciliation descriptions are also not substitutes for a shared parity test.

We have not tested PrivacyBooks with the ukbankconv fixture corpus. This page therefore makes no claim that either product extracts more accurately. A scanned workflow in particular requires line-by-line review against the image and statement balances.
