UK sort code checker
Every UK sort code is six digits, and the leading digits say which bank the code was allocated to: 20 to 29 is Barclays, 30 to 39 is Lloyds and TSB, 40 to 49 is HSBC. Type a code and this tool checks the format and names the likely issuer from the public allocation ranges, entirely in your browser.

Limitations
- Identification uses the publicly documented allocation ranges (and known digital-bank codes such as Monzo's 04-00-04 and Starling's 60-83-71), not the official Extended Industry Sorting Code Directory, which is licensed.
- Ranges have changed hands through decades of mergers; the named bank is the current holder of the range, which is usually but not always who printed the statement.
- A valid format and a matching range never prove that a branch or account exists; this tool does not run the modulus account-number check banks use.
